Queens (2014)

Artist’s statement/ note

This series comprises large-format photographs taken during my visit to New York City in the summer of 2014. My friend and I stayed at a hotel in Queens for approximately two weeks. Given the brevity of our stay, I recognized that I could not engage with the neighborhood in any deeper way than as a tourist. The resulting images, therefore, reflect only my daily observations throughout the trip—from the first morning when I awoke, to the final night when I showered before departing for the airport. Revisiting my archive, this body of work recalled Joel Sternfeld’s project Landscape as Longing: Queens, New York, created long before I had begun to practice photography.
